12 workers killed in factory wall collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi district

State Labor and Employment Minister and local MLA Brijesh Merja said that the incident took place at Sagar Salt Factory located inside Halvad Industrial Area.

He told, ‘At least 12 workers of the factory have died in the incident. Efforts are on to rescue others trapped under the debris.

He told that 12 people have died in the incident at Sagar Salt Factory in Halwad GIDC of the district. The government stands with the families of the deceased.

Morbi’s SP said that we are taking the statements of the families of the victims. There was no delay in responding to the incident. The rescue operation took about one and a half hours.

Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

The Prime Minister tweeted, ‘The tragedy of wall collapse in Morbi is heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Local authorities are providing all possible help to the affected.

The Prime Minister’s Office also informed by tweeting that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the accident by tweeting. Shah inquired from Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel about the status of the rescue work over the phone.

The Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement and said that the Chief Minister has announced a compensation of Rs.4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. Patel instructed the district administration for relief and rescue work, the statement said.

Expressing condolence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the local administration is providing relief to the affected.

The Home Minister spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and inquired about the situation.

He tweeted, ‘The death of 12 people in an accident in Morbi, Gujarat is very sad. I have spoken to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the administration is providing relief promptly. The injured are being treated by taking them to the hospital. I express my condolences to the bereaved families.
