15 thousand cases in last three years
The state government admitted that more than 15,000 child marriages took place in Maharashtra in the last three years. This was disclosed by the government while replying to a written question in the Legislative Council. Not only this, the details of 15 thousand 253 girls under the age of 18 years who became mothers were also known.
The Child Marriage Prohibition Act was enacted in 2006 to curb the practice of child marriage. However, this law does not seem to be strictly enforced. The shocking thing is that 15 thousand 253 girls who are victims of child marriage who are under the age of 18 have become mothers.
According to the details received, as per the National Crime Record, 137 out of 152 crimes have been filed in the court in the state in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The serious thing is that in the last three years, the state government has succeeded in stopping only 10 percent of child marriages.

Parbhani district ranks first in the state in child marriage. The rate of child marriage in Parbhani district has apparently increased in recent times. In the last six days, 9 child marriages have been stopped in the district. The government has taken action to stop child marriage in this district with the help of Child Line organization. And a program called Child Marriage Free Parbhani has also been conducted.
