Bhopal: Poachers in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh shot dead three police officers.

According to police, six hunters in four four-wheelers were hunting peacocks in the Aaron area around 2.45am on Saturday.

Three police teams were dispatched to the area on information that there were armed poachers.

As the hunters were surrounded by police, the hunters opened fire on the police. The hunters fled, though other police teams tried to catch them.

In the aftermath of the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Selahan and state Home Minister Narottam Misra held emergency consultations with senior police officials.

One of the hunters was reportedly wounded during a shootout with police. The government has decided to pay Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of the deceased police officers.
