4 arrested for gang rape of female colleague in Guwahati
The woman, a resident of Karbi Anglong district, had joined a private business establishment a few days back. The police have arrested four people including the owner of the establishment.
GuwahatiPolice in Guwahati have arrested four persons, including the owner of a private commercial establishment, for their involvement in the alleged gang rape of a female colleague. Officials gave this information on Friday.
According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday and the four accused were arrested on Thursday after the victim, who hailed from Karbi Anglong district, lodged a complaint.
“According to the survivor, she had joined the establishment a few days back. On Wednesday, three of his associates took him to a rented house near his office, where they lived, for lunch,” said Sudhakar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Guwahati East).
“There the trio allegedly raped her. The victim informed the owner about this, but he did not take any action. On Thursday, he lodged a complaint with the Hatigaon police station following which the four were arrested.
The arrested accused are Naeemuddin, Mukul Islam, Ashraful Amin and owner Rafiq Ali. Medical examination of the victim has been done and her report is awaited. Police said that the three accused involved in the gang rape have admitted their involvement in the crime.
To be sure, the confession or disclosure statement of any person to a police officer is not admissible as evidence before a court unless it is supported by other evidence. Only a confession before a judge is admissible as evidence against an accused.

Fire broke out in Khar Bhawan for the second time in a week
