Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics begins Monday night at TD Garden.
Pre-game narrative: There is no bigger story than the availability of superstar Joel Embiid, who is listed as questionable for the series opener. As a result the spread has reached double digits and we believe the Celtics will cover a replacement line. We’re also expecting James Harden to go deep and include him in tonight’s SGP.

76ers vs Celtics Single Game Parlay Picks
Parlay: Celtics -5.5 + 2.5 over threes + 3.5 over assists Tatum (+300)
Celtics -5.5 (-215) : Embiid’s absence cannot be understated. He is the likely MVP, led the NBA in scoring and averaged 36.8 points against the Celtics in four games this season.
The last time these teams met, he fell by 52 on April 4 in Boston. It led to a two-point victory and was the only time the Sixers have beaten the Celtics in four meetings.
Philadelphia won Game 4 of their first-round series without Embiid, resulting in a sweep of the Nets, but Boston is a different animal and a heavy favorite to win the NBA Finals.
Despite a tougher-than-expected series against the Hawks, the Celtics covered that number in each of their four wins. They won by an average of 10.5 points per game.
Boston averaged a +6.4 scoring margin during the regular season, the best mark in the NBA, and a 10.1 Net rating at home was at the top of the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers went 11-5 without Embiid this season and went 50-34-2 against the spread, shooting an NBA-best 59.5% of games. So we feel more comfortable taking Boston, which had a No. 4 ATS record, for Game 1 at a lower spread.

2.5 Harder than Three (-132) : Harden attempted 8.3 threes per game in the first round (up slightly from 7.6 in the regular season) and topped that line twice.
The 10-time All-Star has converted three-plus 3-pointers in three of four games with the Celtics this season, and we’re encouraged by how well the Hawks lit up Boston from distance. .
Atlanta shot 17.2% from long range in the series opener but went above 37% in four of the next five. He cleared the 40 percent mark thrice.
The Hawks were 20th in 3-point shooting this season while the 76ers were the NBA’s No. 1 team. Volume has never been a concern with Harden, who has cleared the line in four of the last six games without Embiid.
Tatum over 3.5 assists (-250) : Jayson Tatum is the focal point of this offense and the team leader in usage. While he is the Celtics’ top scoring threat, he has shown his willingness to distribute routinely.
Tatum averaged 4.6 assists per game in the regular season and topped 3.5 in five straight games to close out the Atlanta streak.
He averaged 6.3 assists in four games against Philadelphia this season, topping that mark each time.
