A case of monkeypox has come to light in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa On August 3, a person who returned from Saudi Arabia was diagnosed with monkeypox.

According to the authorities of the Federal Ministry of Health, the young man who returned from Saudi Arabia is a resident of Dir and currently residing in Mardan.

Officials also said that this is the first case of monkeypox in Pakistan this year. During the last two years, 11 cases of monkeypox have been reported in Pakistan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global emergency yesterday.

According to officials of the Ministry of Health, the contact tracing of the person affected by the monkeypox has been done while the samples of more people are also obtained.

Meanwhile, an important meeting was held in the Federal Ministry of Health under the chairmanship of the Director General (DG) Health in which important recommendations and guidelines were issued regarding the monkeypox.

According to officials, all provinces have been directed to designate focal persons in terms of monkeypox and border health services to conduct strict surveillance at all entry points.
