Alert canceled after RCMP finds vehicle linked to Fredericton shooting

RCMP said people can “return to normal activities” in the Greater Fredericton area after officers located a vehicle linked to the early-morning shooting.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, police issued an emergency alert saying they were searching for “individuals believed to be armed and dangerous” in the Oromocto area, about 20 minutes southeast of Fredericton.

About an hour and a half later, the alert was canceled after a suspicious vehicle was found in the Longs Creek area. A 22-year-old man was taken into custody, RCMP said in a tweet.

RCMP said, “Police remain in the area as part of the investigation.” “Further updates will be available as the investigation continues.”

RCMP and Fredericton Police Force officers responded to a report of shots fired at Hanwell Trailer Park in Fredericton at around 4:30 a.m. on Leafwood Drive.

On Friday morning, Fredericton Police Force spokeswoman Sonya Gilks ​​said one person was arrested and two people were taken to hospital.

Gilks ​​said the shooting was not accidental and that the victim and suspect knew each other.

Trailer park residents were evacuated and neighbors were in a safe condition, but Gilks ​​said shortly after 10 p.m. that people could return home.

Gilks ​​said the file has now been turned over to the RCMP.
