AMU Kashmiri Student Dies Under Mysterious Circumstances
ALIGARH: A 17-year-old Class 12 student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)-run Sir Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his rented room in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. in the afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Adnan Altaf Maglu from Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and he stayed at Shahbagh locality in Aligarh, police said.
“His parents were informed about the death. They are expected to reach Aligarh on Monday evening and his body has been kept at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh,” AMU Proctor Wasim Ali.
The Proctor’s office said Maglu stayed in the AMU hostel till Class 11 but had to leave the place due to low marks in the Class examination. “His marks are low and as per AMU rules for hostel allotment, he is not eligible to continue and has been asked to shift to a rented accommodation,” Ali said.
According to the police, when the owner of the house who rented the room to Maglu did not notice any activity from the room until Sunday afternoon, he informed his parents in Baramulla.
The father, Altaf Hussain, asked an acquaintance to personally visit his son’s room, police said. The man sent by the father reportedly found Maglu lying unconscious on the floor of his room. He was rushed to a medical college hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.
“Doctors told us that the student died six to seven hours before his body was brought to the medical college. We recovered some medicines and an empty bottle from the room. The dead body has been laid to rest at the mortuary and we are waiting for the arrival of his parents, after which the post-mortem will be conducted. As of now, we are not able to say anything about the cause of death,” said Deputy SP (3rd) Ashok Kumar Singh.
Ali said that after moving to his rented room last year, Maglu once cut his vein. “His parents were called to stay with him and they stayed in Aligarh till December with their son but he was alone when the unfortunate incident happened on Sunday,” Ali said.
