Assembly election dates in Gujarat-Himachal may be announced before Diwali, know the calculation of election-2017

The schedule for assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh may be announced before Diwali this month. The Election Commission may announce the election dates in both the states by October 15. Both the states are ruled by the BJP while the Congress is the main opposition. Also Aam Aadmi Party is trying to compete in both the states. These states may go to polls in November.
The Commission reviewed the preparations
The Election Commission has visited both the states to review the election preparations. The commission is now only preparing to finalize the election programme. The Election Commission is focusing on favorable weather, school examinations, local festivals, agriculture and several other events in both the states for the elections. Because, the election program should be such that the voters and the government machinery involved in polling do not face any difficulty.
Will the election be announced simultaneously?
Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are usually announced simultaneously. This time it was expected that due to the changed status of Jammu and Kashmir and the increased number of seats, the election program of these states would also change. Recently, the Chief Election Commissioner had hinted that due to severe winter in the high hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir in November, the assembly elections here may be postponed till March next year.
Notifications came separately last time
Last time i.e. in 2017, if we look at the announcement of the assembly election program of these two states Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, a lot has changed. For the first time in many decades, the election programs of the two states were announced on separate days. Then the election was announced after a gap of 13 days. The commission had issued a notice to hold a press conference on October 12 morning. Only Himachal Pradesh election program was announced on that day. Voting in Himachal Pradesh was announced on 9 November 2017. While the date of counting of votes was kept after about 40 days i.e. 18th December.
13 days after this announcement, the election dates for the 182 seats of the 14th Legislative Assembly of Gujarat were announced on October 25. Voting for Himachal Pradesh elections was held in two phases on December 9 and 14, exactly one month after the polls. Counting of votes for both the state elections was done simultaneously on December 18.
