BJP announces Panchayat election candidates in Nandigram, sparks controversy

Ranjan Mohapatra, Kanthi: The date for panchayat polls in the state is yet to be announced. Unprecedentedly, the BJP leadership of Nandigram announced the names of the candidates before that. The list of names was announced in the presence of Shuvendu Adhikari in the staff meeting in Haripur village panchayat area of Nandigram-1 (Nandigram) block. Candidates names have been announced for 14 out of 15 constituencies of Haripur Gram Panchayat. A heated debate has already started. Especially the ruling Trinamool (TMC) has reacted strongly.

It has been seen that almost all of them are close to Subhendu in that list. On this day, Suvendu Adhikari attended the party workshop organized in Haripur area. The announcement of the names of the candidates in his presence has started a lot of criticism.

BJP candidates are excited to get a chance to fight as candidates. “Our peace is only when Mamata wipes out Banerjee,” said one. Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen’s reaction to this, “These are nothing but plays.” They will not be able to field candidates for all seats in the panchayat. Therefore, in this place of Nandigram, candidates are covering their weakness by announcing in advance. No matter how much they do, Trinamool will win the vote.” However, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar stands by Shuvendu in this regard. He said in a press conference, “We have been preparing for the panchayat polls for a long time. His preparation is going on at the block level in the district. This is also a part of that.” In fact, Nandigram is the political mean of Subhendu. He became the leader of the opposition after winning the Ekush Assembly polls from this constituency.
