Boardwalk for the disabled at marina damaged by storm surge – Corporation report
A 1.14-crore wooden walkway for the differently-abled opposite Vivekananda’s house on the Chennai Marina beach has been damaged by Cyclone Mandus.
The 380-meter-long, 3-meter-wide wooden walkway made of Brazilian teak and vela wood was inaugurated on November 27. Ministers Shekhar Babu, K.N. Nehru, M. Subramanian, Chepakkam Assembly Member Udayanidhi Stalin and Chennai Corporation Mayor Priya Rajan, hundreds of differently-abled persons used the bridge with great joy in the last 13 days. This wooden walkway, which has been spreading its resilience all over the social media, has been affected by the sea rage in the last 2 days.
It is worth noting that although the last part of the bridge where the waves hit has been damaged, there is no damage to the other parts of the bridge. Meanwhile, the officials of the Zonal Corporation have inspected the road and sent a report to the government about the damage. Therefore, the municipal administration has assured that the bridge will be repaired immediately and brought back to its old condition within a couple of days after the rains stop.
