Call Before U-DIG App: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 6G Vision Document today. Along with this, the Prime Minister also launched a mobile application called Call Before U-DIG. The initiative of this app has been taken by the Department of Telecommunication. This app is launched to save government money. Until now, when any new project or tender was launched in the country, the work of that project was directly started by the agency.

In such a situation, the damage to the underground cable or pipeline would cause thousands of crores of losses during the excavation. According to a video posted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official YouTube channel, every year the government incurs a loss of around Rs 3,000 crore due to breakage of underground cables or damage to pipelines during development-related works.
This is the advantage of U-DIG?
To avoid all this and to save public infrastructure Department of Telecom has launched U-DIG mobile application. Under this, the digging agencies or telecom companies will get the information in advance of which company has laid the pipeline or cable line in the area and which company they are going to work on. Cables or pipelines shall be worked in consideration and shall not cause damage to government and public infrastructure. Many times citizens have to face problems for many days due to such things.

To explain in simple words, suppose you want to start road or subway work in your area, excavation is done first. Hitherto the excavation agencies used to start the work directly. In such a situation many times the underground pipeline or wire would get damaged. But now with the launch of U-DIG app this will not happen and the damage can be minimized.
