NEW DELHI—The Center has urged the public to identify and nominate deserving and talented individuals for the country’s highest award, the Padma Awards.

Every year, the central government honors talented people who excel in various fields including art, science, literature, medicine and sports in our country by giving Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards.
This year, the central government has decided to change the names of the people for the Padma awards so that they can be nominated entirely by the public.
According to this, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the applications for the Padma Awards for the year 2024 are welcome from the citizens of the country.
It states:
As the Padma awardees are to be announced next year on the occasion of Republic Day, eligible candidates are invited to apply. They can apply through Central Government’s National Award website https://awards.gov.in.
Those who excel in fields including arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, business and industry can apply.
Except doctors and scientists, employees working in government and public sector organizations cannot apply for Padma awards.
Women, weaker sections of society, Scheduled Tribes, differently-abled, and the public can make a concerted effort to identify talented individuals who render selfless service to society.
All the details mentioned in the dedicated websites should be submitted for applying.

Apart from that, the applicants or the public should also submit a personal statement of not more than 800 words about the achievements in the relevant field.
The last date to apply for the awards is 15th September.
