Compulsory 450 hours ‘internship’ for college students: UGC results
UGC has decided to make at least 450 hours of internship compulsory for all college students. Detailed guidelines related to this will be released soon.
UGC officials said that students can do two types of research exercises. That is, students can use it to enhance their employment or to cultivate a research mindset.
Students must train to obtain at least 20 of the 160 credits in the four-year undergraduate program. At the same time students who want to leave with a certificate course or diploma course should take at least 8 to 10 weeks of training in the second or fourth semester, respectively.
Students who wish to complete their degree can pursue elective training on an optional basis after the second or fourth semester. They may conduct research training at educational institutions or research institutes or in industrial research and development laboratories. This means that each research instructor (INTON) must engage in 450 hours of research work during his training period. 1 credit is a minimum of 45 hours of research work per week.
Students wishing to complete a certificate or diploma course must obtain 10 credits. That means engaging in 450 hours of research training. 4-year undergraduate students are required to obtain 40 credits in research training.
Students can take this research course at the educational institutions where they are studying or at other higher education institutions. A study supervisor will be appointed for each of the trainees. To manage such research exercises, a separate research training web address can be set up.
