Kapil Sibal told ANI, ‘They want political mileage in 2024 and want to tell women that they did such a historic job… They should have done it in 2014. What’s so historic about it? On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Congress MP Manish Tewari said, ‘The bill that has been introduced is unfortunately a betrayal of the women’s movement and their struggle for greater representation in policy making and legislative matters. Section 334A of the Bill says that reservation will come into force after the first census after the passage of the Constitutional Amendment Bill and the delimitation that follows. So essentially this means that under any circumstances this reservation will not be implemented before 2029.

Reservation can also be given only after the delimitation process and the next census. According to the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill 2023, one-third of the total seats reserved for women will be reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
