Congress wins bar association election in Siliguri  Sangbad Pratidin

Staff Reporter, Siliguri: Congress continues to dominate Bar Associations. Congress once again won the Siliguri Bar Association elections. But every year they fight in alliance with CPM. This year they won 10 out of 16 seats without any alliance. Besides Trinamool got 4 seats and CPM got 2 seats.

But Trinamool (TMC) has done well this year. They got 4 seats for the first time. This election was held in Siliguri court on April 29. 42 candidates filed nominations for 16 seats. In the Bar Association, the total electorate was 1429 while 1219 voted. Counting starts from Sunday morning. There is a close fight in several positions. Then the results were announced around 12 pm. It can be seen that Congress has captured the board this year as well. According to the results, Trinamool won the posts of president, vice-president, assistant editor and librarian.

The rest of the General Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer posts have been bagged by the Congress. Besides, out of 9 executive members, Congress got 7 and CPM got 2. Trinamool’s Piyush Kanti Ghosh was elected as president and Congress’s Alok Dhara won the post of general secretary. Piyush Kanti Ghosh said, “Whoever is on the board as president, I will work with everyone. To take the Bar Association further.”
