New Delhi: Mohammad Tawheed Hussain, Advisor on Foreign Affairs in the Interim Government of Bangladesh said that efforts will be made to return former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh only when the country’s Law Ministry gives such instructions.

Channel 24 reported in its report on Sunday (August 11) that Hussain said: “I learned that she (Hussain) has resigned and her resignation is with the president. It has been confirmed. If the ministry of law there request to write a letter to return them, I will do it.

Hussain, however, said he would not take the law ministry’s position on the matter and would wait for the ministry’s instructions.

Hussain, who holds the equivalent of foreign minister in Bangladesh’s interim government, also appealed to the people of the country to see India as a close friend, Channel 24 reported.

Hussain said the interim government will investigate every death that occurred during the reservation movement that brought down Hasina’s government.

He explains that after the dramatic fall of the Awami League-led government of Sheikh Hasina and his escape to India, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh.

Along with Yunus, President Muhammad Shahabuddin also administered oath to 13 additional councilors in Dhaka on August 8. The interim government consists of 16 councilors led by Chief Councilor Yunus.

Sheikh Hasina currently resides in India and has accused the US of involvement in her ouster.

According to the Economic Times, Hasina claimed that the United States wanted to remove her from power for refusing to relinquish control of the island of St. Martin, which would have allowed the United States to exert influence over the Bay of Bengal. .

Hasina, in a message sent by her close aides and made available to ET, said that she could remain in power by giving up the sovereignty of the island of St. Martin.
