Dance and geometry merge during menswear week in Paris
PARIS (AP) — Dance, theater and geometry fused Thursday in the Paris Menswear Week episode as all eyes turned to Louis Vuitton’s fall-winter spectacle.
Here are some highlights for the Fall-Winter 2023-24 collections:
ISSEY MIYAKE BECOMES COMPLEX, CLEAR
A twisting dance troupe performed on the runway against a backdrop of optically striped lighting that moved organically.
More than just spectacle, it introduced a geometric theme this season – how simple shapes can be folded to create more complex shapes – something the Japanese house explored in several separate sections using its signature techno pleating techniques.
The Homme Plisse Issey Miyake collection started with a beautiful, soft new jacket silhouette – in dazzling flashes – with cam-like shoulder pleats and warped tubular sleeves. Lines in the groove of the pleats gave the impression of complexity, even though the silhouettes themselves seemed minimalist.
Elsewhere, the idea of simplicity yielding more than the sum of its parts was developed with flair in a style called the ‘edge coat’. The amorphous pleated garment resembled some kind of dark jellyfish, designed using triangular-shaped fabric that created a sublime three-dimensional shape.
