Death toll rises to 101 in Assam floods-Dinamani


The death toll from the Assam monsoon floods has risen to 101. 54.5 lakh people have been affected in the state.

Due to heavy rainfall, the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers and their tributaries are flooded. Thus, the districts where those rivers flow have been affected by severe floods.

Assistant Commandant of the National Disaster Relief Force Santosh Kumar Singh told reporters, ‘The National Disaster Rescue Force and the State Disaster Rescue Force are rescuing people from flood-hit areas by boats. About 14,500 people from 12 flood-hit districts were rescued by the National Disaster Rescue Force. Rescue operations are being carried out in Kamarup, Kamrup Rural, Pongaikan, Babota, Pajali, Koojay, Nalbari, Tarang, Tomulpoo, Nagaon, Uthalguri and Kachao areas. The rescue squad was called in to help with the relief efforts.

Authorities said the death toll from the floods had risen to 101, with 12 more dead on Thursday.
