Dr. Nijjar emphasized on the production of basic food grains – News18 Punjab
Chandigarh: Inaugurating the “Eat Right Millet Mela” organized by the Foods and Drug Administration Punjab (FDA) in collaboration with the district administration at Company Bagh, Minister for Local Government Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar addressed the gathering of farmers, food experts, students and common people present at the event and emphasized on the production of coarse grains.
Dr. In his address, Nijjar said that to save our land from poison, we should do natural farming. He said that we have completely forgotten about coarse grains, which mainly include millet, kangni, kodra, jowar, kuttaki, samwan, and ragi, while their consumption is very important for our physical and mental well-being. He said that by producing coarse grains, where water is saved, medicines also have to be used less. With which our soil also remains fertile. Dr. Nijjar said an awareness campaign was launched about the benefits of coarse grains rich in nutrients. He said that the government will also help them.
Dr. Nijjar said that once coarse grains were an important part of our diet. But due to major changes in our lifestyle, it has disappeared from our plate. We are suffering from his evil with many terrible diseases.
He said that today we need to make coarse grains a part of our plate again to avoid serious diseases. He said that we have invited diseases by using more wheat and paddy and we have to go back to our original grains.
He said that due to high amount of gluten in wheat, we are getting sick and we are also damaging our soil by using chemicals.
On this occasion Dr. Nijjar observed the various stalls set up in the fair for the promotion of organic farming and coarse grains and appreciated the organizers of the fair. During the fair Dr. Nijjar was also honored with a commemorative sign. Dr. Nijjar also felicitated the participating children by lighting the lamp.
In this fair, Food and Drug Commissioner Punjab Dr. Abhinav Trikha, Assistant Food Commissioner Mr. Rajinder Singh, Food Safety Officers Mr. Satnam Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, Karan Sachdeva, Mr. Surjit Anand, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, O.S.D. Manpreet Singh, PA Maninderpal Singh, and a large number of people were present.
