Elderly mother and child dead after fire in southwest Calgary – Calgary
An elderly mother and her child died after a house fire in the southwest Southwood neighborhood on Sunday.
Crews responded to the fire in the 700 block of Seymour Avenue Southwest around 5:10 p.m.
The Calgary Fire Department said the fire was quickly brought under control. “When they entered the home an adult male patient was found and taken from the back of the house while an adult female patient was found and taken from the front of the house,” CFD said in a Sunday night release.

Fire officials said crews immediately began CPR, but the elderly mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, who police say is in his 60s, was taken to the hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

Calgary police confirmed a few hours later that the child also died from his injuries.
The victims are scheduled to be autopsied on Monday.
Police, firefighters and arson investigators are investigating the cause of the fire. According to the investigators, there is no reason to believe that the fire was suspicious.
