‘Fanboy’ Abhinav Brinda praises Sachin Tendulkar. Sangbad Pratidin
Abhinav Bindra: I have always been a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. To be honest, my cricket consciousness, watching cricket is all about Sachin. I grew up watching Sachin, and I stopped watching cricket after Sachin retired. Growing up with a passion for sports, Sachin was my inspiration. I remember, I met Sachin once during the 1998 Commonwealth Games. His memory still remains. The shooting was in Langkawi, and we all came to Kuala Lumpur for the opening ceremony. I was fifteen. The whole thing was a total fanboy moment for me.
I wanted to keep the childish enthusiasm alive till the end of my career. In fact, if you don’t have it, you can’t play for long. What Sachin has shown. You can think that Sachin has continued to reign for twenty-four years at the international level! It wouldn’t have been possible if he didn’t have an extraordinary passion for the game, if he couldn’t keep the childlike love for the game alive. Granted, your approach to the game may change over time. But it is important to keep the passion for the game alive.

Sachin Tendulkar dreamed of winning the World Cup for India. And as long as that dream did not come true, he did not give up. Sachin took twenty two years to fulfill his dream. Which would not have been possible, if the love for the game was not as alive as the first day. And as much as there was external pressure on Sachin to perform, I’m sure there was internal pressure as well. Sachin created an unparalleled standard for himself. With which he had to fight himself constantly. In sports, the first thing a player has to learn to accept is failure. Understand that you won’t always win. But even after that you have to get up and give your best. And by doing that every day, Sachin has shown how much responsibility he has towards the game.
And the longer your career, the more injuries. The abyss of failure awaits. Sachin also had to deal with all that. I can say from my own experience, mentally that time feels very devastated. But the point is, at the end of the day, the negative mindset cannot be allowed to win. Sachin has always been able to overcome all the obstacles and return to the success table because of one reason – being honest to cricket.
At the same time, it is equally important to understand yourself and keep yourself disciplined. First of all, self-consciousness is required. Scoring a hundred in international cricket shows that Sachin has always kept his mind in the present. He knew what was expected of him, and Sachin fulfilled those expectations day after day. Remember, millions of people watched Sachin’s game. That pressure is not easy to handle. And so Sachin will forever remain as an eternal role model to all the sportsmen of the world.
The Cricket World Cup comes every four years, just like the Olympics. But you have to prepare everyday. Not even a day can be given up, month after month, year after year, you have to work tirelessly. So is the Olympics. like me I used to train every day. And at the end of the day, standing in front of the mirror, I would ask myself, did I give my best today? If the answer was yes, then I would go to sleep with peace of mind. Same goes for Sachin. As long as he is on the field, he has always given his best.
Best wishes to Sachin on his 50th birthday.
