First nor’easter of 2024 hits Nova Scotia, cancels schools – Halifax

School is canceled across the province as the first nor’easter of the year blows through Nova Scotia.

Snow warnings are in effect for counties along the Atlantic coast from Yarmouth to Sydney, including Pictou and Antigonish counties.

Environment Canada says a total of 15 centimeters is expected before the snow moves on beginning Monday afternoon for western provinces, and Monday night for eastern provinces.

“Strong northeasterly winds accompanying the snow may cause reduced visibility at times with blowing snow in exposed areas,” it said. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, driveways and parking lots can become difficult to navigate due to snow accumulation.”

Cars run through the snow during a nor’easter in Jan. 29, 2024.
