‘Flame expected at Paris 2024 Eiffel Tower’ – Online International News Network
Paris May 23 (Online): Paris 2024 organizers are planning to place the Olympic flame on the Eiffel Tower, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said on Monday.
The flame will not be projected onto the top of the Eiffel Tower for technical reasons, and it was unclear whether it will remain on the monument throughout the Games, but the combination of two such iconic images will be a dramatic backdrop for the July 26-Aug. 11 for the event.
According to Reuters, “this work has been in progress for the past two years.”
Sources told Reuters the blaze could not be at the top of the tower because antennas are already installed there.
“The location where the torch will be lit on the opening day of the Olympic Games has not yet been decided,” a spokesman for Paris 2024 told Reuters.
He did not rule out working on installing the flame on the Eiffel Tower and would not reveal when an announcement would be made.
After a 10-day journey across the Mediterranean from Greece, the flame will arrive in the port city of Marseille on May 8 by boat – the three-masted tall ship “Belém”.
