Chalsa: The elephant attacked the galamal shop in greed of food. Shops were broken and stored rice, pulses and other food items were looted. The incident took place on Friday night at Kilkot tea garden in Metelli block. Late last night, an elephant came out of the adjoining Chapramari forest on line four of the garden. There the elephant attacked Mahendra Paswan and Dinesh Mirdha’s Galamal shop. He went back to the forest in the early morning. Locals are angry with the constant attack of elephants in the garden.

Village panchayat member Chorku Mahali said that elephants are constantly attacking the garden. Shops and houses are being damaged. Locals cannot sleep peacefully due to elephant attack. If the forest department does not take action immediately, then the local people will be forced to take up the movement. It is alleged that the forest department is not giving compensation. According to the sources of the forest department, the elephants are chased away by going to the concerned areas as much as possible. If the victims apply for compensation, it will be reported to the higher authorities.
