Gambhira festival is celebrated in old Malda – Uttarbanga Sambad
Old Malda: Like every year, the Gambhira festival has started in the old Maldarpur area. The festival, which started on May 12, will continue till May 15. There is now a happy atmosphere in the area centering on this festival. The festivities started on Saturday morning. This year’s festival will end with a big joke on Sunday. The artists have demanded to bring this traditional festival on the tourist map of the district.
In this context, old Maldar Gambhira artist Ravi Shankar Ghosh said, ‘The main folk culture of this district is Gambhira. Gambhira has been a festival in ancient Malda since time immemorial. But over time, that is likely to change. Every year on 26th Baishakh the festival starts with filling pots in different temples. The next day is the thorn dance. Mother Chamunda’s face dance started in the morning of 30th Baishakh. Then Mashangara. The face dance too. After that dance, each face goes to its own temple. Aharapujo begins there. In fact, Kalipujo. The women of the area observe abstinence by performing that pujo. Different types of ceremonies are also held that night. Disguise is held on the afternoon of 31st Baishakh. ‘
