Guerrero Homers beat Orioles 5-1 to lead Blue Jays

BALTIMORE (AP) — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 32nd homer and the Toronto Blue Jays shortened the game with a 5-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night as the top seed for the American League wild card series closed. Made it rain.

Guerrero extended the lead to 3-0 with a 422-drive on a left-field wall in the third.

The Orioles got the board in the lower half on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Santander that Hernandez was able to leap, running over the right-field fence.

A wild pitch from Kramer allowed Merrifield to score in fifth as the Blue Jays extended a 4–1 lead.

Kramer (8-7) allowed four runs and six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings. He ended the season with a 3.23 ERA over 21.

Chapman added an RBI single in the eighth.


Orioles catcher Adley Rustman is the winner of the 2022 Most Valuable Oriole Award. Rutschmann is the third rookie to win the award since its inception in 1954, joining right-handed pitcher Greg Olsson in 1989 and Rodrigo López in 2002.
