The Western Ghats have been recognized by the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization as ‘UNESCO’ as an important area of biodiversity.
It has been affected by human activities. Global temperature is increasing due to decrease in forest area.
I have sent a petition to the Tamil Nadu government to remove the illegal artificial waterfalls, streams and rivers in the Western Ghats. Action should be ordered.

The bench of Justices R. Mahadevan and J. Sathyanarayana Prasad heard the petition and issued the order:
A team of officials set up by the government should inspect private hotels and estates in the Western Ghats.
It should be ascertained whether artificial waterfalls have been created illegally by obstructing the natural flow.
Such hostels should be closed. Criminal action should be taken. Departmental action should be taken against the concerned officials who failed to prevent it.
If the lands owned by Athena are leased and artificial waterfalls are illegally created there, the lease agreement should be canceled; Action should be taken against those involved.
The government should submit a report on the completion of this within three months.
