According to the statement issued by the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office, a delegation of representatives of leading British universities met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The delegation was led by British International Education Champion Sir Steve Smith.

The Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Member of National Assembly Rumina Khurshid Alam, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, Country Director of the British Council in Pakistan James Hampson, Chairman Higher Education Commission and relevant senior government officials were present. also in the meeting.

Speaking to the delegation, the Prime Minister said that promoting quality education is the first priority of our government, we are working hard to ensure that no child is left out of school, in this regard, the federal government is working with the provincial governments.

He said that we have established an education endowment fund in the province of Punjab, similar steps will be taken by the federal government.

He said that the government is taking emergency measures for the development of the education sector.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom spans decades and is improving with time.

Appreciating Britain’s cooperation in the field of education in Pakistan, he said that we want to increase cooperation with Britain in the field of trade and education.

He said that there should be cooperation between Pakistani and UK universities in the field of technology and research, UK can help in terms of training and capacity building of Pakistani teachers.

The Prime Minister said that it is gratifying that Pakistani and British universities have started degree programs on reciprocal basis.

He said he wants to work with the UK education sector to promote higher education in Pakistan and improve its quality.

The delegation expressed great interest in sharing and cooperation between the UK and Pakistan in the field of higher education.
