Rahul Gandhi said that “we should continue to move forward on that path and take steps to protect and preserve nature in all its splendor. This is our national heritage, which we all should be proud of.”

In a post on social media, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Project Tiger’ is a wonderful tribute to India’s steadfast commitment to wildlife conservation and the inspiring legacy of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He said “This ambitious project was launched 50 years ago to protect the dwindling population of India’s national animal – the majestic tiger. Five decades later, the tremendous success of the project has been instrumental in restoring India’s ecological balance and living in harmony with nature. a testimony to the collective resolve of our people to strive for
The same determination was reflected in 2005 when a ‘Tiger Task Force’ was formed by the UPA government under the leadership of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh to further India’s efforts towards tiger conservation.
Rahul Gandhi said that “we should continue to move forward on that path and take steps to protect and preserve nature in all its splendor. This is our national heritage, which we all should be proud of.”

Significantly, on April 1, in 1973, Indira Gandhi started Project Tiger. The country was home to thousands of tigers, but by 1972 only around 1800 tigers were left. This nationwide project was started for the protection and conservation of tigers. This benefited tremendously and after 1973, the tiger population gradually started increasing.
