Iran’s parliament approves Abbas Araghchi as foreign minister

The National Commission of the Iranian Parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of Seyyed Abbas Araghchi as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The vote of confidence in the Iranian parliament regarding the delivery of the ministry to Abbas Araghchi will be held on August 21.

Abbas Araghchi, 61, was the deputy foreign minister under former President Hassan Rouhani, and played a key role in international negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.

Abbas Araghchi was a member of the Revolutionary Guard before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
