Is conversion happening in Tamil Nadu? Tamilnadu government reply in Supreme Court!..

The Tamil Nadu government has said that the claim that religious conversion is happening in Tamil Nadu is a false report. The Tamil Nadu government has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court to dismiss the case that the Prohibition of Religion Act should be introduced in all states.

BJP’s lawyer Ashwini Kumar, in a public interest petition filed in the Supreme Court, had said that the CBI or the National Investigation Agency should investigate the underlying cause of the suicide of 17-year-old Lavanya from Thanjavur district. He also said that the Central and State Governments should prevent religious conversions by giving money and gifts and threats and the Central and State Governments should bring in the Prohibition of Religious Conversions Act.

While the Supreme Court had ordered the Central and State Governments to respond in this regard, a reply petition has been filed on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government. In it, it is stated that the CBI is investigating the suicide of schoolgirl Lavanya and that the petitioner is trying to divert Lavanya’s suicide in his favour.

Lavanya’s suicide note also clearly states that she committed suicide due to the extra work provided by the innkeeper. It has been said in the petition that it should be left to the Legislature to decide what law to pass, the people of Tamil Nadu know what law they want and what they don’t want, and the people of Tamil Nadu should live peacefully.

In its reply, the Tamil Nadu government has asserted that the alleged religious conversions in Tamil Nadu are false and the religiously motivated petition should be dismissed. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu government has requested that the case to bring prohibition of conversion laws in all states should be dismissed. The case is expected to come up for trial soon.
