Reports indicate that Kandula bought a one-way ticket from St. Louis to Washington, D.C., rented a truck and drove directly to the White House. He said the act had been planned for six months to “seize power” from the government and take control of the nation. Kandula said he was ready to kill the president to achieve his goal.

The Secret Service took Kandula into custody after the truck crashed into security barriers near Lafayette Square. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among Secret Service or White House personnel. The incident is currently under investigation and road closures and sidewalk closures are in place.
