Buckingham Palace unveiled the first official portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Thursday. This is the first time the future King and Queen of England, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have been depicted together in a painting. The artwork is by award-winning British painter Jamie Koreth. The portrait is on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England, which bears his name.
Yesterday, the royal couple also visited Cambridge, making them the first visitors to see the painting. But what caught everyone’s attention was the Duchess, who followed her long styling tradition of repeating her sartorial choices, even for this official portrait, while paying a sweet tribute to the late Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth .
Coming off the shelves of The Vampire’s Wife, Kate donned the familiar green dress she wore during the couple’s March 2022 visit to Dublin, while watching Prince William stand beside her in a blue ceremonial suit can go. Giving a facelift to the old fit in the official picture, Kate had Collingwood pearl drop earrings and a triple strand pearl bracelet. For those who don’t know, the stunning contemporary accessory belonged to Prince William and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Paying tribute to the Queen, the Duchess accessorised her dress with a pearl pendant brooch from Your Majesty. The Queen sported the accessory throughout her reign, even as she was seen wearing it during her Silver Jubilee events.
The Pearl pendant brooch is very coveted because, before the Queen, it belonged to Queen Mary’s grandmother, Princess Augusta, who gave it to Queen Mary, and then to Queen Elizabeth. Coming back to Kate’s favorite dress details, the Falconetti ensemble comes in an emerald green shade and features a round neckline. With three-quarter sleeves, a midi-length hem, ruffled additions, and a stitched waist, the dress looked gorgeous. The Duchess completed her look with classic hangsy heels from Manolo Blahnik, which also matched the color of her outfit.
