Kindergartner dragged by school bus in Maine – NECN
A 6-year-old is recovering after being dragged nearly 600 feet down the road by a school bus.
According to the report of NEWSCENTER MAIN, the child was getting off the bus in Buxton when his bag got stuck in the door. As the driver dragged her son off, his mother watched in panic.
“It was horrible, as a mother, yelling in the street, chasing your son, thinking you’re going to see him die,” Athena Lavigne said outside her home on Friday during an interview with NEWSCENTER MAIN Said through tears. “It’s just awful. It’s been terrible; and I keep seeing the same scene over and over. It’s not going away.”
Buxton police said the driver dragged the boy 573 feet before stopping. MSAD 6 school district officials say the driver is currently on administrative leave. The district transport director said the driver is new but has gone through the same 40+ training that all drivers have to go through.
Police is probing the incident.
Lavigne said her son is recovering from road rash and that her children will not take the bus for the rest of the year.
