Arnav Aich and Nirufa Khatun: Red Road will be closed from 10 pm on Wednesday for the Democracy Day parade. Traffic will be closed on various roads of the city on Thursday as well. Calcutta Police issued a notification and informed that southbound vehicle traffic will be stopped from Maulali Mor on AJC Bose Road from 5 am to 1 pm on Thursday. Southbound freight traffic will remain closed along Ganeshchandra Avenue to Chittaranjan Avenue along St George’s Gate Road, Strand Road to Raja Woodmount Street. Freight traffic has also been suspended on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road in the north and south.
This year again, there will be spectators at the Red Road parade on Democracy Day to remove the Corona threat. There is a possibility of sabotage on this day. So Lalbazar is on high alert. Saraswati Puja has been performed on him this year on the day of Commonwealth Day. The streets will be crowded on that day. To prevent any untoward incident from Tuesday, the police are conducting strict vigilance in hotels, shopping malls, parks and places of interest. Naka checking is going on at 50 important points of the city. Special emphasis has also been placed on the security of the Red Road. 3 thousand police are deployed. There are 20 DC rank officers. There are 45 ACs, 148 inspectors, 312 sub inspectors and 340 ASIs. Besides, there will be additional CP. Special Commissioner Damayanti Sen is in charge of organizing Republic Day celebrations at Red Road.

Lalbazar said, Red Road and adjacent roads have been divided into 18 zones for safety. 125 have been sectored in these 18 zones. There are 10 bunkers made of sandbags. There are three quick response teams. Surveillance will be conducted from 10 watch towers. Besides, there is a system of drones. There are 11 heavy radio flying squads and 58 PCR vans. There are 11 police assistance centers on Red Road to assist visitors. 14 ambulances are being kept. Special bike teams will patrol. Strict nose checking is going on at the entry and exit points of the city. Besides, there are 13 quick response teams across Kolkata. Militants may also target schools and colleges for sabotage as Saraswati Puja is on that day. Therefore, on the day of Saraswati Puja, strict police surveillance has been arranged in schools and colleges. Lalbazar said that police surveillance will continue for security at all places where Saraswati Puja is organized.
