
Rail roko movement of farmers
Farmers in Punjab-Haryana on Monday staged a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation demanding the sacking and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the violence at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. They sat on the railway tracks at many places and stopped the movement of trains. The Rail Roko movement, which started at 10 am under the leadership of the United Kisan Morcha, ended at 4 pm.
Demonstrations were held at several places including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Moga, Patiala, Ferozepur in Punjab and Charkhi Dadri, Sonipat, Kurukshetra, Jind, Karnal and Hisar in Haryana. The protesting farmers, including women, raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government and demanded the arrest of Ajay Mishra. Security forces were deployed at railway stations in view of the ‘Rail Roko’ demonstration.
