Ludhiana: Youth appeared in class 10th exam in place of friend, passed exam

Ludhiana Police has arrested a 19-year-old youth, who was allegedly appearing for Class X board exams at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Kabristan Road, at his friend’s place.

Abhishek Giri, 19, of Shimlapuri was caught red-handed by the examination staff while appearing for the Punjabi exam in place of his friend Sukhraj Singh. A case has been registered against both Sukhraj and Abhishek. Giri is also giving the 12th exam.

Examination Superintendent Ravinder Kaur told the police in her complaint that after the commencement of the examination, she was checking the admit cards of the students. He noticed that a student was looking completely different from the photograph printed on the admit card. He has cut his hair while the photograph printed on the admit card was of a turbaned youth. Soon, the youth confessed that he had appeared for the exam on behalf of his friend Sukhraj Singh.

SHO Inspector Vijay Kumar of Division No. 8 police station said that Sukhraj had asked Giri to come to his place as he was better at studies. Giri told the police that he appeared for the exam for the sake of friendship and did not take any money.

An FIR has been registered at Division No. 8 police station under IPC sections 419 (cheating by person) and 420 (cheating).
