A senior official said law enforcement officials had raided the Jamiul Huda madrasa in Soruchola village on the intervening night of July 27 and 28 and arrested Mufti Mustafa, who operated it.

“Mufti Mustafa’s wife Asmina Khatoon and brother Zakaria Ahmed have been taken into custody to collect evidence and are being interrogated,” Morigaon Superintendent of Police Aparna Natarajan told reporters here.

Amiruddin Ansari and Mamoon Rashid were arrested a few months back from Kolkata and Barpeta respectively and were identified as members of Ansarul Islam.

Natarajan said Mustafa had done several financial transactions with the two since 2019 till now. The investigation also revealed that Mustafa had given shelter to a “wanted person” from another country in the madrasa.

Natarajan told that Mustafa’s bank accounts have been confiscated.
