Madhya Pradesh government may consider making national anthem mandatory in madrassas in the state: Minister

He made this statement on Friday in response to a question asked by journalists in the capital Bhopal.

Apart from this, Madhya Pradesh BJP chief Vishnu Dutt Sharma said that the national anthem should be recited in all educational institutions across the country.

Singing of the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ has been made mandatory in all madrasas of Uttar Pradesh from May 12. On May 9, the Registrar of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board issued an order to this effect to all the District Minority Welfare Officers.

Speaking to reporters, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that the national anthem should be sung everywhere. He said, ‘It’s a good thing. It is a national anthem and it can be sung everywhere.

Asked whether a similar decision can be implemented in Madhya Pradesh, Mishra said, “It is a matter of consideration… it can be considered.”

On whether the national anthem should be sung in madrasas in Madhya Pradesh too, state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma said, “We are not asking anyone to sing the national anthem of Pakistan. We are only asking for the national anthem and national anthem and slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ to be raised in educational institutions located in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and every nook and corner of the country.

“If this is happening and such a decision has been taken, then it is a welcome step,” he said.

According to Hindustan Times, a similar request has been made by the BJP in Maharashtra as well. Acharya Tushar Bhosale, who is the state president of the BJP’s Spiritual Coordination Alliance (according to his Twitter bio), lauded the Yogi government’s move and talked about the need to follow it.

He tweeted and said, ‘Welcome the Yogi government’s decision to make the national anthem mandatory in madrassas of Uttar Pradesh! It is necessary to awaken patriotism along with religious and school education.

In another tweet, Bhosale urged the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)-led government in Maharashtra to make the recitation of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ mandatory in madrassas in the state.

He said, ‘In Maharashtra also, the national anthem should be made compulsory in madrasas. We have a demand from the state government.
