The Congress now has its own government in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while in Jharkhand it is a power partner in the form of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Jr. alliance. In Tamil Nadu too, the ruling DMK is playing the role of a junior ally. The Congress lost power in the crucial state after losing the Punjab assembly elections a few months ago this year. This year Congress also faced defeat in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur assembly elections. Another big challenge for Congress is leaders leaving the party. Recently Hardik Patel and Sunil Jakhar left Congress and joined BJP.
Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, RPN Singh said goodbye to the Congress. Jitin Prasad joined BJP before him. He is currently a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. There are many names of prominent leaders who have left the Congress in the past few years, another highlight being that they were once considered part of Rahul Gandhi’s youth brigade. In March 2020, Jyotiraditya Scindia said goodbye to the Congress and joined the BJP, the process of leaving the party of prominent youth leaders who are close to Rahul Gandhi. As a result, the Congress government formed in Madhya Pradesh after 15 years lost power within 15 months.
