Mastermind of Kocha-e-Risaldar attack among two terrorists killed in joint operation

Two terrorists involved in the attack on Peshawar’s Imambara Kocha Risaldar have been killed in an anti-terrorist operation in Peshawar.

In March this year, over 60 people were killed and nearly 200 were injured in a suicide blast inside Jamia Masjid Kocha Risaldar near Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazar.

The dead included prayer leader Imam Irshad Khalili and two police officers.

The attacker detonated his explosive jacket inside an imamberg (Shia mosque) during Friday prayers. CCTV footage showed that the assailant first shot people, including policemen guarding the place of worship, and then blew himself up in the main prayer hall.

The bombers and their handlers used 5 kg of explosives and ball bearings in suicide vests to maximize casualties.

Police, Anti-Terrorism Department along with other security forces conducted a joint operation under the jurisdiction of Pishtkhara Police Station in Peshawar. The operation was launched on the information of the presence of two terrorists.

Two terrorists were killed in a shootout with the law enforcers.

One terrorist has been identified as Hassan Shah, a member of the banned outfit. He is believed to be the mastermind of the Kocha Risaldar blast. Shah had planned the blast and brought the suicide bomber to the spot.

Arms and ammunition were also recovered during the raid.
