Milani, a resident of Theni district, had filed a complaint in Salem First Criminal Arbitration Court, saying that Edappadi Palanichamy, who had contested in Edappadi assembly seat in 2021, had given various information wrongly in his election affidavit and especially had hidden property details.
The court heard the petition and said, ‘Judge Kalaivani of the First Criminal Arbitration Court, a special court that hears complaints against members of parliament and members of parliament, should conduct a proper investigation regarding this petition. The Central Crime Branch Police was also directed to take appropriate action if there is any evidence of the allegations made in the complaint.
On the basis of that, the Salem Central Crime Branch police, after finding out the truth in the allegations lodged in the complaint, filed a case against Edappadi Palanichamy under Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act and interrogated various parties. In particular, the Central Crime Branch, which is conducting an investigation based on the 1,338-page documents provided by Milani, the complainant, is going to conduct an investigation with the Income Tax Department officials, Election Commission officials, Revenue Department officials and bank officials.
In this situation, the police have included O. Panneerselvam as a witness in this case on the basis of the petition given by the complainant Milani that O. Panneerselvam should be investigated as a witness.
That is, O. Panneerselvam, who was the coordinator of the party in 2021, had signed the affidavit filed by Edappadi Palanichami, so the complainant had filed a petition to include him as a witness in this case. Based on that petition, he has also been included as a witness in the First Information Report.
