Mumbai: The new Metro 2A and 7 connecting Mumbai’s western suburbs has been a hit with commuters. According to MMRDA, there is an increase in the number of passengers daily on this new route. It is noteworthy that on last Thursday, PM Modi had inaugurated the complete route of the new metro.
Within three days of its launch, the number of passengers has reached close to 1.5 lakh. Not only common people, but special people are also enjoying the journey of Metro 2A and 7.
95 percent genuine passengers
According to MMRDA officials, there is an overwhelming response from Mumbaikars. In view of this, the number of passengers on both the routes will increase significantly from Monday. Officials claimed that the new metro carries 95 per cent genuine passengers, while only 5 per cent travel for pleasure. The new metro is proving to be very useful for the working people. It was told that about 1.50 lakh people traveled on the new Metro route on Monday. The ridership of Metro Line 2A and 7 is expected to be 3 to 4 lakhs per day soon.
Best gift for Mumbaikars: Sumit
Renowned film and TV actor Sumit Raghavan shared many videos and photos while traveling in the new Metro. Sumit Raghavan said that this metro is the best gift for Mumbaikars. He said that while traveling in the metro, I felt as if I was in a toy shop like a child. Apart from Sumit, the journey of many common and special people living in the western suburbs has become easier.
Feeling 236 Trips
According to MMMOCL officials, the new metro is currently running 236 trips. Services are available at an interval of 8 minutes during morning and evening peak hours. MMRDA has 28 rakes in its fleet, of which 21 have been pressed into service, the rest are on standby for maintenance purposes. According to the officials, the service will be increased if the demand increases. The first Metro from Dahanukar Wadi to Gundavali is available at 5.25 PM, while the last Metro from Dahisar East to Dahanukarwadi is available at 10.50 PM. Both these routes have the facility of interchange with Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar line of Metro Line-1.

The new line has major stations like Andheri West, Dahisar and Andheri East Gundavali, which are also connected by Western Express and Metro Line 1 at DN Nagar. According to the authority, the number of passengers is expected to be more at these stations. The new line is 35 km long and has 30 stations. MMRDA has approved the construction of Foot Overbridge (FOB) connecting Bombay Exhibition Centre, Nesco and Oberoi Mall for the convenience of commuters.
