The National Assembly passed an amendment to impose a levy of Rs 50 on petroleum products
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Assembly has passed an amendment to impose a levy of Rs 50 on petroleum products.
A provision was also passed to levy super tax of up to 10% on companies and levy sales tax on traders through electricity bills. Five per cent sales tax was levied on software and IT consultants’ services. A clause was passed to give additional privileges to the Chairman Senate and the Speaker National Assembly to the Standing Committee. One to four percent super tax was levied on annual income of Rs. 150 million to 300 million. 10% supertax was approved in 13 sectors with an annual income of more than Rs. 300 million. Airlines, automobiles, beverages, cement, chemicals, textiles will be subject to 10% super tax. Cigarettes, fertilizers, steel, LNG terminals, oil marketing, refining will be subject to 10% super tax.
Minister of State Ayesha Ghous Pasha said that our aim is to tax the rich and give relief to the poor. No changes were made to the budget at the request of the IMF.
GDA leader Fehmida Mirza Bole rejects such a budget which is a burden on the people.
