Opposition parties have insisted that Prime Minister Modi should not inaugurate the new Parliament Building built in Delhi and President Draupadi Murmu should unveil it. Apart from that, other parties including Congress and Trinamool Congress have boycotted the inauguration program. In the meantime, it has been reported that two other parties have also agreed to attend the inauguration program. Announcing the participation of party MPs in the inauguration ceremony, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said in a letter that the party believes that Parliament, the symbol of democracy, is above politics and its authority and stature must always be preserved.

Both Biju Janata Dal and YSRCP announced their decision to participate in the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. The inauguration of the new parliament will be held on May 28. 19 opposition parties, including the Congress and Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party, announced the boycott in a joint statement on Wednesday, calling the inauguration a grave insult and direct attack on democracy.
