Occupied 4,000 houses in Goregaon Hill, Powai, Sion, Borivali; Check Eligibility Criteria

A lottery to sell around 4,000 homes will be conducted by the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board (MHADB) in March.

Representatives of the Housing Department presented the specifics of the lottery draw on Friday. Around 2,200 residences will form the hilly neighborhood of Goregaon West on Link Road, and the remaining units will be spread across Powai, Sion, Borivali etc.

All the four income groups—Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG), and High Income Group—will have access to the houses (HIG).

60% of the 4,000 houses for the economically weaker and low income groups

Sixty per cent of the 4,000 homes to be sold will come under the EWS and LIG categories. MIG and HIG will get the remaining 40%.

The cost of apartments in EWS and LIG groups would be around Rs 35 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. The prices of MIG and HIG apartments are yet to be decided.

The lottery is expected to result in a temporary halt to the sale of homes offered by private developers.

The applicant has to submit all the necessary paperwork while applying for residency, which was not done in the past. A schedule has been put in place to scrutinize ineligible applications and provide a final list of candidates. In the past, such documentation was done after the lottery results were made public.

After winning the lottery, the winners of the house will have to take possession of the flat and make the payment within 30-45 days. Earlier, it used to take at least 4-5 months to complete the payment and possession processes.
