2024 presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said on Wednesday’s episode of Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Tonight” that if he is elected president, the federal government will only allow college and university accreditors. will select only those schools that will be recognized. They are “colorblind” and not “trying to divide people based on race” with things like DEI.
DeSantis said, [relevant remarks begin around 7:55] “Well, first of all, the virus of the waking mind is basically a form of cultural Marxism. At the end of the day, it’s an attack on the truth. And because it’s a war on the truth, I think we have a war on the awake. There’s no choice but to tease. So, how does that work for the president? Some of it can be a bully pulpit, a willingness to tell the truth and not be swayed by ideology, which we see in so much of our society. There are probably ways, however, that you can differentiate. Certainly, when you look at ESG and some things. [are] The way corporate America is going with the big financial institutions, we have every right to push back on this. Along with education, the federal government approves accreditors for universities. There’s a reason why universities are obsessed with things like DEI, yes, some of it is because they want to do it, but some of it is because accreditors tell them you have to do it. Well, as president, I’m going to make sure that we’re accrediting accreditors who are going to do the opposite, who are going to say, you know what, we’re going to accredit you if you’re a color. There are blind universities, if you’re not trying to ‘divide people on the basis of race.’
