Health Canada has issued a recall notice for the SimplyHot brand of Thai green chili after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) found possible salmonella contamination.
Health Canada said in a statement that the recalled products have been sold in Alberta and Saskatchewan and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories. Notes Released on Wednesday.
Affected product in 50 gram size, with UPC 8 94242 00050 4. According to Health Canada, the specific batch packaged on 20AL23 is to be recalled.
Health Canada says no illnesses related to the use of the recalled products have been reported.
Health Canada urges consumers to avoid buying affected products because they can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
While food contaminated with salmonella doesn’t look or smell bad, the health agency warns that it can still make you sick.
According to Health Canada, healthy people who eat food contaminated with Salmonella may have short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications can include severe arthritis.
Health Canada is urging Canadians to check their refrigerators to make sure they don’t have any of the recalled products. If you find them, do not use, serve, use, sell or distribute them. Instead, throw them out or return them to the place where they were purchased.
If you accidentally ate the recalled product and became ill, Health Canada says you should contact your healthcare provider.
