Opposition responsible for disrupting House proceedings: Piyush Goyal, allegations baseless
- JPC’s demand is related to a scam
- Misleading attempt by Congress and allies
- Attacking opposition after failure to resolve impasse
Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is getting global recognition. He accused the opposition of misleading the country. Goyal said that the opposition is deliberately disrupting the proceedings of Parliament with its irresponsible comments and baseless allegations.
Along with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Goyal accused the opposition of repeatedly insulting Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar by refusing to meet him. He said that some opposition forces, including the Congress, did not attend the meeting called by him on Tuesday. However, he was present in the meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
The Congress hit back at Goyal and said the charge was being leveled by the leader of the House, who had asked his MPs to stop Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge from speaking twice in the Rajya Sabha. The party said, Piyush Goyal is accusing the opposition of boycotting the meeting called by the Rajya Sabha Speaker. The allegations are being leveled by the Leader of the House, who twice prevented Leader of the Opposition Kharge from speaking to his MPs, when the Speaker allowed him.
JPC’s demand related to a scam
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter that silencing the opposition leader apart from JPC on Adani is also an issue. In another tweet, Ramesh said, “How can the opposition’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Adani scam involving the Prime Minister be linked with the BJP’s demand for an apology from Rahul Gandhi on completely baseless allegations.” JPC’s demand is related to a scam. Apologies are being demanded to divert attention from the Adani scandal.
Ramesh also said Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Kharge was allowed to speak by the Speaker this morning and he stood up to speak, but BJP MPs raised slogans and did not allow him. After this the Speaker adjourned the Rajya Sabha. He said that if the Modi government behaves like this, how will the deadlock end.
At the same time, Goyal told reporters that at a time when the Union Budget is being praised all round, Modi is being hailed as the most popular leader in the world and the BJP has won elections in the Northeast. He attacked the opposition after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee convened by the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha and an all-party meeting convened by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha failed to resolve the impasse in the budget session of Parliament. Amid protests from opposition members from the first floor of the Parliament complex, Goyal said he was resorting to cheap tricks to stay in the limelight as he had no solid argument.
